Cate Mission Weekly Letters

  Olááá everyone! Well as the subject suggests it's been a solid six weeks here in Springfield, but now I am off to the top of our mission in Corvallis! I am going to be serving on the Oregon State University campus, which I am so so excited about! I don't know that I'll be able to be a Beaver fan though so I will keep you all updated on that. On top of that, I have also been asked to serve as a Sister Training Leader! So there are a whole lot of changes happening at once which is a little overwhelming, but I have faith in God that everything is going to work out and be good!  I seriously love Springfield so it is going to be sad to leave Sisters Staheli and Christensen and all the people we are teaching here.  I've also decided mission Christmas is pretty special. We had a Ward Christmas Drive through at the Church which was amazing! On Christmas Eve we went over to a family in our wards house for dinner. Oi! Well we have officially entered the best week of the whole year!!! I seriously love this time of year. What better time to be a missionary than now, where people all over the globe are focusing on Jesus Christ?!? Trick question, there isn't.  This week I got to experience what the pre-COVID missionaries did, knocking on a door! Our Bishop gave us a name of someone to go and visit, so we had to go and knock on their door because there was no other way for us to get in contact. So we took one of the older missionaries with us so we had someone who actually kind of has an idea of what to do, and it turned out to be a great interaction! So door approach accomplished! Besides that, we didn't have the world's greatest week here. Our friend Eve yelled at us for 10 minutes about how she hates when we ask her how much she smoked (she asked us to do that-not our idea), our friend Kristoph walked out of Church after 10 minutes, and Britt and Chel cancelled on us again. Hello everyone!  It was another crazy busy week here in Springfield! We had Zone Conference and our Mission President talked to us about the importance of having hope. We talked about how hope is an abiding trust in the Lord and that He will fulfill His promises! In times like these, we can always trust that if we are obedient and follow God's commandments, we can expect blessings! This message was extremely helpful to our friend Eve. She's had a pretty rough life, but when we talk to her about hope in Jesus Christ and how He can help her in any circumstance, there is a noticeable change in her. Hope is powerful! Also, I am not getting transferred! All three of us were really worried we were going to be split up because of all the craziness with other missionaries going home before Christmas. Olá!!! Well as the email title says, I have officially been a missionary for SIX MONTHS!! Time has gone by so fast I honestly don't feel like I've been out that long. One of my companions is on the same track as me so we got to celebrate this mile marker together with some 5 Guys. As you all know In n Out is my favorite, but the closest one is three hours away so I had to go for the next best thing. But I figured I would give six things I've learned these past six months as a missionary! 1. The key to helping anyone is to love them. Whether I am talking with church members, my companions, people we are teaching, or random people in the store, love is key 2. I like to cook! Who knew?  3. Hello friends and family!! Well this week had to be one of the busiest weeks of my whole mission! Every single day just was packed and we got so much done! We found three new people to teach and have about two more potential people! The best part is one of our potential people speaks Portuguese!!! We were going through some of our old records of people that had met with missionaries before, and I randomly clicked on this guy and started reading through his profile and saw that he spoke Portuguese. I called him on the phone and talked to him for a little bit in mixed english and português and he's totally cool to have us over! Not many people in Oregon speak Portuguese obviously,  so I don't think it was a coincidence we got in contact with him.    In other news, I've discovered that you don't have to leave the United States to eat gross food. Hello everyone!! Well I have officially been in Springfield for about a week now and it's been great! It rains a lot more here than it did in Klamath, but I guess I probably should've expected that being in Oregon. Sadly, I don't think it will snow so I'll just have to enjoy the daily rainstorms and just hope it will get about 10 degrees cooler. Being in a trio has also been an interesting experience! Both of my companions have been in our area for a transfer so I kinda just hopped in for the moment. I assume one of us is going to leave in about three weeks because of all the missionaries going home before Christmas, so we will see what happens! Both my comps are so nice and are really dedicated to the work! This week we found one new person to teach and have about three potential people as well so things are looking good!   Olá!!! Well you heard it here first my time in Klamath Falls has come to an end. On Tuesday I will be moving to Springfield, OR! I am so sad to leave Klamath Falls and all the amazing people I've met, but I am so excited to move to the place Homer Simpson lives;) Sister Massey is staying in Klamath and I am actually going to be in a trio! This next transfer is only four weeks long so we will see how long the trio will last but I am so so excited to get to serve with two other companions! In terms of teaching this week we had the best ever lesson with Deb! We went over and read from The Book of Mormon with her. While we were reading together the Spirit was so strong. Debbie loved everything we were reading about and told us she believes everything we are teaching her!! She told us since she's been meeting with missionaries she has noticed a difference in her life and she is much happier now than before she started meeting with us.
