Week 68: Let Them Eat Cake!

Bom dia queridos!!

As mentioned in the title, we ate a lot of cake this week. Not by choice, but more or less by force. Now that we are able to eat in members' homes, everyone here is being so generous in allowing us to come over to eat with their families! Sister Hinton and I absolutely love that we get to go and meet so many new people! But we have discovered that all the irmãs here think we aren't eating enough, so we hear the phrase "Come mais Sister!!" a ton. So of course that means we eat more food. And just when we are full, they pull out a cake and give that to us too. And Brazilians don't mess around with their cake. When you finish your first slice, within 2.5 seconds there is another slice on your plate. After eating lunch and cake at an irmã's house on Saturday, we then went to have a lesson with a recent convert, Sônia. She was so sweet, and after the lesson, she also pulled out a cake for us to eat. So I think between me and Sister Hinton on Saturday we ended up eating 3 lbs of cake.

Our friend Luiz Gustavo has a baptismal day marked for this Sunday so we are excited for him! We were out street contacting on Saturday and we were able to make some good contacts with people. We also went to knock on doors for the first time which was actually really cool! We went and tried to visit a referral we had gotten that day but ended up talking to this woman's neighbor Luzia! Luzia is a sweet old lady who actually used to meet with the missionaries a long time ago! When we were talking to her she pulled out her Book of Mormon and pamphlets that the old Sisters had given her. We talked to her for a long time and were running late to try and catch the bus so we didn't have time to talk with the lady who had originally sent the referral. So we left a Book of Mormon on her stairs with a little note and got on the bus. When we made it back home, we gave Sandra (the woman who originally sent the referral) a call and she answered and told us that she and her husband had already started reading the Book of Mormon we left them! So amazing how everything worked out exactly how it needed too :)

I love being a missionary! I love Brazil! And I am learning to really love cake!!

Com todo de meu amor,
Sister Johnson
